Coolie No 1: Varun Dhawan-Sara Ali Khan starrer suffers a loss of Rs 2.5 crores after freak fire

The shooting of Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan’s Coolie No 1, which is a remake of David Dhawan’s hit film starring Govinda and Karisma Kapoor recently came to a screeching halt after a fire broke out on the sets. Reportedly, the flames caught up but fortunately, didn’t harm or injure the 15 workers who were on set at the time of the fire. The crew members later called the fire brigade and police after it was all ablaze. Producer Jackky Bhagnani even took to Twitter and wrote, “We would like to thank the Firefighters ,Mumbai Police and the BMC officials for their immediate assistance, after a concerning situation on the sets of #Coolieno1 The fire was put out immediately with no casualties. I want to thank everyone for their concern and wishes[sic]”

However, the unit has suffered a huge loss. According to Mumbai Mirror, the fire that took almost three hours to extinguish blipped out big portion of the set and light equipment. A source told the publication that the major part of the loss is of the third party supplied material. But that’s not all, the producers have also suffered a loss of Rs 2 to Rs 2.5 crores. But there is little to fret over as the Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan film is insured and the claim process will soon begin. Meanwhile, the cause of why the fire broke out in the first place is still unclear.

Earlier, before the shooting commenced, director David Dhawan said that he was in two minds about the remake and wasn’t too sure. “After re-watching the original, I started working on the script. For six months, I wondered if I should make it or not. Finally, I decided to adapt it. It’s actually a new film. I’ve worked on it for almost a year with the original writer Rumi Jaffery on the screenplay and Farhad Samji on the dialogue,” the filmmaker had said. The remake of the classic comic-caper will release on May 1 next year and we can’t wait.
