James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan thinks that a woman should now take on the iconic role. In the face of all the rumours and speculation that Lashana Lynch is expected to take on the baton as the next 007 in the upcoming James Bond film, Brosnan endorsed the idea completely.
Speaking to HollywoodReporter, he said, “I think we’ve watched the guys do it for the last 40 years, get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there. I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting,” he said.
On how the franchise would be dealt with in the post #MeToo era, Brosnan said that it would have to change with the times. “Without question, yes… The #MeToo movement has been relevant and significant and well needed in our society, so they’ll have to address that.”
Brosnan, who acted in four James Bond films, looks back at them as the highlights in his career. “James Bond has a certain significance and a deep pride. I will be asked about him until my dying days it just goes with the territory.”
Bond is a beloved character, said Brosnan, “I was honored to play the role and I rejuvenated a franchise that had been dormant.” Brosnan played Bond in The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day, Tomorrow Never Dies and Golden Eye.
On the work front, Brosnan will shoot a Netflix comedy with Will Farrell and Rachel McAdams. The next James Bond film No Time To Die, is expected to be Daniel Craig’s last, and will hit the screens next year. In 2015, Daniel Craig had said that “he’d rather slash his wrists than do another James Bond film”. The actor has given up on the popular character after four films as he said that he had had enough. But he later revised his decision and decided to work in No Time To Die.
The film is set to hit the screens in April 2020.
