Kangana Ranaut will be playing the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in an upcoming political drama. The actress took to Twitter and shared the news with her fans, expressing her excitement over the same. In another tweet, Kangana quoted Khushwant Singh and wrote that Indira Gandhi’s ‘face was like when all the swords are drawn just before the King’s command’.
Kangana Ranaut announced on Twitter that she will play the role of Indira Gandhi in a film directed and written by Sai Kabir. Kangana’s Manikarnika Films will be producing the project.
Kangana Ranaut wrote, “Happy to announce my dear friend Sai Kabir and I are collaborating on a political drama. Produced by Manikarnika Films. Written and Directed by Sai Kabir (sic).”
She also replied to a tweet that shared an old photoshoot of hers, in which she can be seen dressed as the late PM of India. “This is a photoshoot about iconic women I did in the beginning of my career, little did I know one day I will get to play the iconic leader on screen,” she wrote.
In a statement, Kangana revealed that the film is based on a book and will not be a biopic of Indira Gandhi, but a period drama. However, the name of the book has not been specified. Moreover, the film will feature the Emergency declared in the country during Indira Gandhi’s tenure as well as the Operation Blue Star that was carried out between 1 and 10 June, 1984.
In another tweet, Kangana Ranaut posted several pictures of India’s first female Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, and wrote, “She was very beautiful, not pin up girl type beautiful, her face was like when all the swords are drawn just before the King’s command….- Khushwant Singh (sic).”
Kangana will also be seen in Dhaakad and Jayalalitha biopic titled Thalaivi.
