Director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Master starring Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi is going steady at the box office even after 12 days of release. The film released in theatres across the country with 50 per cent occupancy on January 13, one day ahead of Pongal. With less occupancy in theatres, Master has managed to garner more than Rs 200 crore at the box office worlwide and is continuing to rake in the moolah.
It has been 12 days since Vijay’s Master hit the theatres amid much fanfare. Master smashed several box office records despite having limited release due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Now, reports suggest that the distributors are entering the profit zone in Tamil Nadu as well.
Popular trade analyst Naganathan took to Twitter to call Master a blockbuster as the film has entered the profit zone. He wrote, “Excellent 2nd weekend for #Master all over TN, movie achieved break-even and into profit zone for all TN area distributors.. #Blockbuster (sic).”
Reportedly, Vijay’s Master has earned Rs 115 crore in Tamil Nadu in 12 dayss. Even in the North belt and other South Indian states, Master has entered the profit zone.
Apart from Tamil Nadu, Vijay’s Master is doing exceptional business at the Kerala box office as well. In 12 days, the film has managed to collect more than Rs 11.5 crore at the box office.
Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi’s Master is the first big-budget film to release in theatres during the novel coronavirus pandemic. The film’s streaming rights have been bagged by Amazon Prime Video for a record price. It is said that the film will have its OTT premiere in a few days from now.
Amazon Prime Video is expected to announce the release date of Master in the coming days. Trade analysts suggest that this will compensate for losses in the overseas market.
Apart from Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi, Master also features Malavika Mohanan, Arjun Das, Andrea Jeremiah, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Gouri Kishan and others in pivotal roles. Produced by Xavier Britto, the film has music by Anirudh Ravichander.
