R Balki’s social drama PadMan, starring Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor, continues to dominate the box office. The film raked in Rs 5.87 crore on Monday, taking its total collection to Rs 45.92 crore.
PadMan released on Febraury 9 with a collection of Rs 10.26 crore, Rs 13.68 crore on Saturday and Rs 16.11 crore on Sunday. The film hit the Rs 40 crore mark in only three days. But looks like the working days have taken a toll on the film as it was able to only earn a sum of Rs 5.87 crore on its first working day. Compared to its Sunday collection, the earnings have decreased by more than 60%.
PadMan is inspired by the real-life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham who brought a revolution in India with his low-cost machines which could manufacture cheap and affordable sanitary napkins for the economically weaker sections of the society. After impressing the audience with Toilet: Ek Prem Katha which was also based on a social issue, PadMan seems to set yet another example of being a successful socially relevant film.
