Priya Prakash Varrier’s controversial film has striking similarities to late screen legend’s life

The internet sensation Priya Prakash Varrier is finally making her Bollywood debut with the film, Sridevi Bungalow. The film is written and directed by Malayalam filmmaker Prasanth Mampully. The official trailer for the film is out and has been receiving mixed reactions from the audience.

In the trailer, we see Varrier playing an actress named Sridevi who leads a successful but lonely life. The end of the trailer has a shot of a bathtub with a woman’s legs dangling out, an image which viewers have found to be similar to how Bollywood veteran actress Sridevi died. The late actor was found dead in the bathtub of her Dubai hotel room in early 2018. The official cause of death was declared as accidental drowning.

Late Sridevi’s husband Boney Kapoor has sent a legal notice to the filmmakers for its insensitive portrayal of the late actress. Director Mampully confirmed the legal notice and revealed to the media portal Cinestaan, “My film is a suspense thriller. I told him [Kapoor] that Sridevi is a common name. My character also happens to be an actress. We will face it [the legal case].”

The shooting of the film is still underway in London and the released date for Sridevi Bungalow is yet to be released, reports Indian Express.

Popular as the ‘wink girl’, Priya Varrier became an overnight sensation for her expressions in the teaser song ‘Manikya Malaraya Poovi’ from her Malayalam movie Oru Aadar Love.
