Riteish Deshmukh to play a vertically challenged villain in Marjaavaan, confirms director Milap Zaveri

Even as Aanand L Rai’s Zero is gearing up for release on 21 December, Milap Zaveri’s upcoming project Marjaavaan will feature Riteish Deshmukh as a vertically challenged villain, reports Mumbai Mirror.

Zaveri told the publication that he wanted to make Riteish’s character more wicked than his role in Ek Villain, the dialogues for which were penned by Zaveri. “I decided to raise the bar by scaling him down in size,” the director told the publication.

He added that the height of the character would not be more than three and a half feet and that he would be extremely witty with a great sense of humour. Furthermore, the filmmaker informed that the team had conducted exhaustive VFX research for Riteish’s role.

Explaining the process behind creating the illusion of a vertically challenged man, by using two-layer sets and making the actor sit down on his knees, he added that the height of the antagonist is integral to the plot.

Riteish will reunite with his Ek Villain co-star Sidharth Malhotra for Marjaavaan, that will also feature Tara Sutaria, who will make her debut with Karan Johar’s Student of the Year 2 next year.

Producer Nikkhil Advani, who will back the project with Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series, defines the genre of Marjaavaan as a “violent, dramatic love story”.
